Using Your HSA or FSA on Amazon
As the pandemic continues, no matter where you sit on the issues, I think we can all agree it's time to look for some money saving tips.
According to Investopedia: A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged account created for individuals who are covered under high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) to save for qualified medical expenses that are over and above an HDHPs coverage limits and/or exclusions. Contributions are made into the account by the individual or the individual's employer and are limited to a maximum amount each year. The contributions are invested over time and can be used to pay for qualified medical expenses, such as medical, dental and vision care, as well as prescription drugs. With the CARES act enacted into law in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, HSA funds can now be used for over-the-counter medications without a prescription, as well as certain other health-related products.
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a type of savings account that provides the account holder with specific tax advantages. An FSA, sometimes called a “flexible spending arrangement,” is set up by an employer for an employee. The account allows you to contribute a portion of your regular earnings to pay for qualified expenses related to medical and dental costs.
Basically both are accounts that have tax advantages and can be used for qualified medical and dental expenses.
But did you know you can use it to buy household goods on Amazon?!
Yes! You can! I was so pumped to discover this and I hope its as exciting for you. We have used it for lots of preventative health care, hygiene, baby care, and first aid items.
Adding your HSA or FSA card to Amazon is simple.
Log into your account.
Click Accounts & Lists from the tool bar at the top of the page.
On the lower left side you will see a list titled Ordering and Shopping Preferences, select Your Payments from this list.
Scroll down until you see Add a New Payment Method.
Click into the Amazon App.
Select the middle icon on the bottom that looks like a person.
Scroll down to Your Account, select View your account.
Scroll down to Payments, then select Your Payments.
Scroll down and select Add an FSA or HSA Card.
If you have an unrestricted HSA or FSA card, you will need to add your card as a credit or debit card. Our card ended up being unrestricted, so we were prompted to add it as a credit or debit card. By adding your card as a credit card, you are agreeing to be responsible for making sure it is only used for eligible items. I think Amazon makes it pretty simple to stay a rule follower, all eligible items will have a notation reading "HSA or FSA eligible" in their description.
To find the items that are HSA or FSA eligible, simply type ‘HSA or FSA eligible products‘ into the search field. You may also find this Frequently Asked Questions link from Amazon helpful. I think you will be surprised by some of the items that are eligible, so go check it out!
