Delicious Taco Meat
We love ground beef. I use it in a variety of ways, but one of my husband's favorite ways is in a Taco Bowl. For this recipe I fry up the ground beef in salsa and a few other spices.
I quit buying pre-made taco seasoning years ago because it was always too salty and didn’t have the right flavor profile. And no matter how I cooked it, it always seemed dried out.
Making your own taco seasoning for ground beef is so quick and easy to customize, I hope you try out my method. I think you’ll find that the ground beef is more moist and full of flavor that you’ll never go back to the pre-made mix.
What you’ll need:
your favorite salsa
oregano (I used fresh today but dried works too)
I wish I was more organized with our meals but it just doesn’t work like that around here. So when I make this I start with frozen ground beef, and honestly for this recipe I think that’s what helps the favors really meld and permeate through the beef, making it super tender and juicy.
It turns out ground meat isn't the sexiest thing to photograph, but this is the end result and I think that looks pretty dang good.
1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef
1 c. Salsa (your choice, we like the organic salsa from Costco)
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
1/2 tsp Oregano
S&P to taste
In large sauté pan, add all ingredients. Cover pan with lid.
Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally to break up ground beef and avoid burning.
Sauté until meat is cooked through.
Serve in tortillas, with chips or in Taco Bowl recipe.
